MY MAJOR IS GRAPHIC DESIGN, YOU KNOW. IT'S TRUFAX.

I...eh. GD. I'm generally a web-oriented person, to be honest. Anyway - this is the restaurant project that the entire junior class slaved over last semester (I was just able to get half-decent pictures of it now).

I decided to do a videogame-themed sweets shop called "Sweet Bytes". (It was originally "Sweet Byte", which I like better, but eugh. Things change.) The main components of the project were to create a menu, a box, and a bag.

Overall, the Sweet Bytes theme was heavily inspired by Nintendo - things like Earthbound (checkerboard!), Mario, Zelda &etc - mostly the SNES era, when I grew up. All of the menu items (drinks, cakes and pies, cupcakes, candy, &etc) have names relating to common Nintendo characters and games. :D It was really hard to come up with names!

The menu size and layout was inspired by the little instruction manuals that always come with games (the older ones). My bag actually holds my three cupcake boxes. When you take them out, it shows a sort of connected "scrolling" scene. :) I also designed a couple of cookie tins and silkscreened my candy bags.

Everything was designed from scratch (I made all of the little pixel images - the tiny pixel foods in the menu were fun yet frustrating!) and everything was physically constructed by me. I even made the fake cookies and cupcake! (I think ~firewolf826 helped me out with the cookies because I was doing them the morning of the day the show was supposed to go up.)
That would be the One-Up Cup on the left, and Heart Piece Cookies on the right.

I'm ... haha, overall not entirely happy with how this project came out. I would like to fix it up in the future, because I really love the idea of it (and god, I have to stop designing with such bright colors).

Interesting factoid - one of the girls who actually placed designed a restaurant (dinner-type, I think) called "Bytes" - more of the Atari age, really, and very cool! The two of us had absolutely no knowledge of each others' projects since we were in different classes, so I think it's kind of funny.

Edit: You can see (almost all of) the sprites I created from scratch for the menu and project here: [link]

This is so cute!

I want to know though - how did you get your design onto the tins?
